2018 Women And Online Graduate Programs

2018 Women and Online Graduate Programs

Women continue outnumber men in online graduate degree programs, according to a recent study. This study, published in late 2017, shows that the majority of online master’s students are women (64%).  Women outnumber men, overall, in both online and on campus graduate programs!

Women earned the majority of doctoral degrees in 2016 for the eight straight year.  The fields of study that have attracted disproportionately higher numbers of women at the doctorate and master’s levels include Public Administration, Health Sciences, and Education. Fields where females are underrepresented include Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Sciences, and Physical and Earth Sciences.

What are the stats for women grad students in the field of business? The number of females per 100 males is 84.8 at the doctoral level and 77.3 at the master’s level.

Congratulations to all the ladies out there who are pursuing a graduate degree! You’re working hard to get ahead, to improve your skills and livelihoods, and to become better critical thinkers, presenters, strategists, and leaders. There is no doubt that improving your level of education will lead you to better places in your life.

If You’re Starting To Research Online Degree Options…

If you want to move ahead faster in your career, getting a degree online is a great first step. Carefully research the level and type of higher education you need to reach your desired goal. Maybe a certificate that focuses on building specific skills is a better option for you than a full degree? Maybe a degree is necessary because it provides the level of education needed to gain a specific credential. Great places to look for this information are the websites of professional accrediting bodies like AACSB for business or CCNE for nursing.  And in health professions, check with state licensing boards for the specific requirements in your state.
